Everything You Need to Know About Concierge Security

First impression matters, but safety is everything. Concierge security gives you the best of both worlds. A warm welcome to your guests and a sharp, front-line defence of your premises.

From greeting visitors and monitoring CCTV to patrolling the property and springing into action during an emergency, concierge officers keep your building secure without dropping their friendly demeanour.

Read on for a complete look at concierge security and everything you need to know about costs.

Security Concierge Duties

Concierge Officers combined with receptionist team will perform the following duties:

CCTV surveillance Monitoring

Stationed at access points, concierge security officers monitor live CCTV feeds, rotating views to cover trouble spots like the downstairs lobby, doors, parking lot and elevators. Using a camera joystick, officers track individuals’ movements whilst observing their actions and expressions.

Site Patrolling

Concierge officers carry out strict mobile security patrols and site inspections using a two-way radio, identification, flashlight and a patrol device or notebook. To reduce risk and prevent predictable patterns, patrol routes and timings are regularly changed whilst maintaining a strong visible presence throughout the building.

Keyholding Duty

Concierge security officers keep track of every key and fob when they are taken or returned, using a logbook or simple app. Access is only given to authorised people, such as emergency contacts, after checking their ID. Every key, fob and card is counted during each handover to make sure nothing is missing, whilst also supporting keyholding and alarm response to ensure any alarm activation is dealt with quickly and securely.

When they arrive, turn off the alarm, turn on the lights and do a quick walk-through to check the outside area. When leaving, do the opposite: lock all doors, windows and fire exits, turn off the lights and turn the alarm back on.

Emergency Situations Management

Quickly figure out what kind of emergency is happening right now (is there a fire, a medical emergency, a suspicious package or an active threat?). Keep a cool head and stay sure of themselves. Call 999 or 112 and tell them exactly where you are and what is happening. Activate the building’s emergency notification system or fire alarm if required.

Meet the emergency services when they arrive and give them building details like floor plans or access codes. Point tenants, staff and visitors to the closest safe exits, away from danger. Keep everyone calm so there is no pushing or panic. Make sure people walk to the designated meeting spots and stay a safe distance away from the building.

If someone is stuck (like in an elevator), keep them calm and call maintenance or the fire department right away. If there is danger (like a spill or a suspicious package), block off the area and keep others back until the professionals arrive.

Secure the area and ensure no evidence is tampered with if a crime or severe incident has occurred. Document all events, timelines and witness details for stakeholders and insurers.

Customer Service

Answer questions, provide directions and offer general assistance, acting as a central point of information.

Depending on the site (e.g., corporate buildings or high-end residential blocks), help with booking taxis, handling local enquiries or managing meeting room bookings.

Direct visitors to the correct department or host and prevent unauthorised personnel from accessing restricted areas.

Receive, sign for and safely store mail and packages, notifying the intended recipients upon arrival.

Greet visitors, clients, tradesmen and service workers, verify their work permits or schedules and grant them proper access.

Direct visiting vehicles and delivery of drivers to the appropriate parking.

Site Operations & Staff Awareness

Concierge Officers maintain a deep understanding of how the property is structured and how internal operations are performed. They know the exact layout of the property, including where to find emergency panels, utility switches, every room and what equipment’s and machinery are being used withing the premises. They perform daily checks to spot wear and tear and quickly report any issues to the maintenance team.

Officers are well accustomed to which people are permitted in each department. They understand what each internal staff member does, what their schedules are and what their job descriptions are, allowing them to send questions to the right person and monitor shifts for smooth handovers.

Concierge building security team works closely with all departments, such as housekeeping, IT and catering and use scheduling software to monitor how well the facility is running and handle any delays.

Desirable Characteristics of a Concierge Security Guard

Besides learning mandatory skills, concierge officers hold the soft skills needed to turn ordinary interaction into a memorable experience.

Concierge security personnel adhere to strict regulatory and technical guidelines. Across the UK, they require a valid Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence and may need advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks Officers operate with absolute honesty, avoiding conflicts of interest and strictly adhering to privacy laws such as GDPR when handling personal data or visitor logs.

Cost of Hiring a Concierge Security Guard

Concierge security pricing in the UK is never just a random number. It is mostly bespoke and is carefully calculated based on your specific rigid statutory regulations and current national economic factors. Here is a breakdown of how the UK private security industry shapes its costs today:

Cost Based on Industry-Wide Premises Needs

Any rate you decide upon, once you clarify your concierge demands with the provider, will be based on how critical the security presence is for your specific sector’s operational needs.

If you operate a factory that holds expensive materials or highly sensitive equipment (such as in titanium production), this risk naturally increases the quote. Conversely, for factories with less hazardous production, costs might be slightly lower.

In residential buildings, pricing for a standard apartment block might be lower, as it only requires basic access control and regular patrolling. Meanwhile, pricing for luxury residential sites is higher because you need to manage parcel logging, key holding and hospitality, all whilst remaining vigilant against targeted illegal activities.

In hotels and multi-storey commercial facilities, you often require several concierge officers to manage different entrances and zones from a single provider. The cost is higher. Alternatively, if you only need coverage for a particular floor rather than the entire building, the cost decreases.

Healthcare facility quotes are based on how sensitive your medical facility is. Managing thousands of patients, securing multiple restricted medical areas and handling highly sensitive situations with care and respect, the price will naturally be higher.

Small medical centres, however, require concierge staff for basic purposes such as welcoming, logging and CCTV monitoring. Therefore, the cost might be lower due to the lighter officer workload and the use of fewer personnel.

For entertainment venues, tennis courts and stadiums, concierge security is required for VIP suites or hospitality lounges and the cost is comparable to that of hotels or healthcare facilities.

Moreover, the pricing charged by providers is based on the set schedule. Any need for add-on concierge services, such as deploying personnel outside of standard working hours, K9 dog handlers or requiring officers formally trained in Emergency Triage and Crowd Management, will naturally adjust the final quote

In addition to that, the rates may vary by location. Security services in London and the Southeast typically cost 20% to 30% more than in Birmingham.

The Regulatory Baseline and Statutory Cost

The foundation of any legitimate security quote also dictated by UK employment law and Security Industry Authority (SIA) mandates.

Driven by the National Living Wage (currently £12.71 per hour as of April 2026) for SIA officers, this creates a significant cost. Any ups or downs in this statutory baseline impacts pricing across the entire industry.

Beyond the hourly wage, a compliant quote also legally encompasses Employer National Insurance contributions, a mandatory 12.07% holiday pay accrual and workplace pension enrolments for SIA officers. These are absolute legal requirements. Therefore, any governmental adjustment to these percentages immediately impacts the final pricing.

Moreover, maintaining a professional SIA staff requires investment in professional uniforms and ongoing SIA compliance management, such as vetting staff and covering their training costs. These background expenses can often be higher than expected.

Another cost factor is liability insurance and Relief Cover. If a primary officer falls ill, a fully briefed replacement is deployed without service interruption.

New government legislation like Martyn’s Law (the Terrorism Protection of Premises Bill) is changing how venues must handle public safety. To comply with this law, security personnel now require counter-terrorism training, which introduces additional training costs.

Different Ways Providers Charge

Security companies do not all offer the same payment options. Some companies strictly use just one billing method, some give you a choice of two, whilst others will design a completely custom (bespoke) package just for you.

Innovative Security operates the following charging structures for its concierge security clients:

  • Hourly Rates (Per-Officer): You pay for each guard based on the exact hours they work on site.
  • Fixed Monthly Price (Flat Fee): You pay one set price every week or month (or even daily) for the entire (or specific) service.
  • Bespoke Packages: A fully tailored option where the price is built entirely around your specific risk level, shifts and site layout. This often comes with package discounts if you hand over all your front-of-house work to that single provider.

A standard reception is a welcoming space found in any commercial space. It simply greets visitors as they arrive and records their entry and exit. Static guarding is not part of a reception; it is only deployed on premises with strict regulations, with the core purpose of protecting people and assets from threats, vandalism and other crimes. A concierge officer is a blend of both or act as a security reception, serving clients with professional greetings whilst also patrolling the entire premises.

Corporate concierge security in the West Midlands costs £16.00–£19.00 hourly, rising to £25.00 for higher-risk corporate environments.

No, a concierge cannot protect your premises from all threats in the same way a static security guard can. Whilst both can act as a physical deterrent and handle emergency responses, a concierge focus is securing the area with customer service, whereas static guards are only for threat prevention and physical property protection.

Yes, concierge security is more expensive per hour than a traditional static security guard.
