Birmingham is a hub of tourism, enterprises, finance and innovation, making it a prominent shopping centre as well.
As per the Birmingham government website, there are over 70 shopping centres serving across the city, including one town centre (Sutton Coldfield), 18 strategic district centres and over 50 smaller local centres.
However, due to underlying socio-economic issues such as high deprivation, unemployment and poverty, Birmingham has become a hotspot for theft and vandalism, particularly in shopping centres.

Even one statistical analysis for the Birmingham postcode area estimates around 20.5k recorded shoplifting offences in a recent 12-month period, equivalent to approximately 10.5 shoplifting crimes per 1,000 people, with a nearly 20% year-on-year increase, indicating growing pressure on shops and malls.
Due to the increased demand for strict security guarding and response systems, the need for enhanced security has also risen. Within Birmingham, one shopping centre was struggling to maintain such high levels of security.
The Solution
After understanding the security needs, we assigned Key Holding & Alarm Response officers to the centre, along with aspects of Manned Guarding Services and Mobile Security Patrols in the retail sector.
Results & Benefits
Over time, our Response Officers have reduced antisocial behaviour within the Birmingham Shopping Centre.
They protect victims, apprehend offenders, provide first aid and preserve evidence at the scene.
By patrolling the shopping centre at designated times and addressing disturbances, our assigned response officers have reduced loitering, vandalism and public nuisance as well.
The shopping centre is now a safer environment with a significant reduction in theft and vandalism.
